President & CEO, Missouri Hospital Association
Herb B. Kuhn is the president and CEO of the Missouri Hospital Association, the trade association serving the state’s 152 hospitals and 20 health systems. The association provides a wide range of services and resources for its members, including federal, state, and local representation and advocacy; health care policy development; public and professional education; health services research; data analytics; public and media relations and communications.
Kuhn also serves on the following boards and advisory committees: Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Advisory Board, Healthcare Services Group and Missouri Health Plan Board, Missouri Health Connection Board, Excellence in Missouri Foundation Board and KPMG Health Care Advisory Board. He is a past member of the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission and Health Care Financial Management Association’s Healthcare Leadership Council.
Before joining MHA, Mr. Kuhn served in four different roles over five years with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Appointed by President George W. Bush in March 2004 to serve as director of the Center for Medicare Management,
Mr. Kuhn was named deputy administrator and served in that role from September 2007 until January 2009. Mr. Kuhn also held the positions of acting administrator from July 2007 to September 2007 and as the acting director of the Center for Medicaid and State Operations from April 2008 until January 2009.
Mr. Kuhn held the position of corporate vice president for the Premier Hospital Alliance before joining CMS. He also served as the vice president for advocacy for the American Hospital Association and worked on Capitol Hill.
