MHD Announces Funding For Hospitals Connecting To HIEs

Staff Contact: Brian Kinkade or Rich Kliethermes

The MO HealthNet Division announced the availability of funding to underwrite a portion of the connection costs for certain hospitals to join a health information exchange. Qualifying hospitals are those that have received at least one electronic health record incentive payment and are not actively engaged with an HIE. Qualifying hospitals can choose to connect to any of the state’s four HIEs: the Missouri Health Connection, the Tiger Institute, the Lewis and Clark Information Exchange (LACIE), or the Show-Me Health Information Exchange (SHINE). Subsidy payments will be made directly to the HIE. Interested hospitals will need to provide MHD with a letter of intent to express interest and initiate the funding process. This funding opportunity is available through September 2021. Questions about the program should be directed to the MO HealthNet EHR Incentives team.

MHA is working with MHD to secure the build-out of the Hospital Industry Data Institute’s Admission Discharge Transfer system, and this initiative supplements 90% of the federal matching funds. MHA’s board approved using $1 million of Federal Reimbursement Allowance as the required match for $9 million in federal funds to develop and implement predictive alerting functionality that will enable hospitals, payers and MHD to better coordinate care for chronically ill health home participants, ED superutilizers, and hospital inpatients transitioning to home or community-based health care.
